Camp SMILE Since
1972 Whispering Pines has been sponsoring Camp SMILE (Special Meaning In Life Experiences). The Camp director at that time, Glen Vernon, recognized the need and created a program to meet the need. Since that time thousands of special need children and adults have had opportunity to experience the joys of camping.
Since 1997, we have
partnered with United Cerebral Palsy of Mobile. Camp SMILE serves children with special needs, their siblings, and other children, ages 3-16+. This unique camp provides a camping experience in a safe and fun recreational setting. While at camp, children and adults can participate in games, swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, music, horseback riding and nightly group activities.
Hurricane Katrina brought significant damage to our camp including the loss of our nurses station and hotel, and damage to our auditorium, ropes course, roofs, and lake facilities. Please follow this link to our Katrina repair page for more information. Katrina Repair
